blinds and soft furnishings.

Custom made by hand.

made by Vicki Moore

About

I am based in Painswick, between Cheltenham and Stroud in the Cotswolds.   Much of my work comes to me through word of mouth.
I make curtains and Roman blinds using traditional methods, so they are luxurious in look and feel and made to fit in your space. I also make cushions, window seat covers, lampshades.

Whatever your requirements, the beautiful soft furnishings that I make for you will be things you enjoy for many years to come.

Bridget, Painswick

"Having been strongly recommended Vicki by an interior designer we soon saw why! Her knowledge and experience in dressing windows quickly became apparent, guiding us on dressing type, height from ceiling and draping on floor and even curtain poles, we received so much more help and advice than anticipated.  The end result was flawless and her pattern matching for an extrememly difficult fabric, outstanding. We would recommend Vicki"

Services

Each client I work with has different requirements. The work required can be relatively small, such as a replacement Roman blind for a cloakroom, or it can be a much larger job, perhaps making different window dressings for an entire home. People come to me at different stages of the fabric decision process too. Some have found, and sometimes bought, the fabric they would like me to use. Others feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start looking. There are many others somewhere between. Whatever your requirements are, in the first instance I will always arrange a consultation with you at your property.

Consultation

During a consultation I can provide 2 levels of service.

  • The first option applies when you know what you want. I will measure up and then provide you with

a quotation. I aim to email written quotations within 5 working days. There is no charge for this
          level of service.

  • The second option is appropriate where you would like me to provide you with a quotation but also

require my advice regarding the options. The advice may be whether you should choose Roman
blinds or curtains or a mix of the two; it might be you would like to know how the prices of each
compare to help you decide. You may have a tricky window and simply can’t work out what might
be an option. Choosing fabric can be an enjoyable process but it can also feel really overwhelming -
there is so much to choose from! Having input from me about how different fabrics can affect the
feel of your space can be really helpful in guiding you in your choices. A quotation provided
following this type of consultation may include options for various windows. The charge for this
level of service is £50 which is payable following our meeting with the sum then being deducted
from any future work I do for you.

If you don’t feel you fit into either of these options, please raise this when we speak. I’m sure we
can find a way forward.

Creation

All items are made by me, largely by hand, using traditional methods; for example, the stitches,
interlining, lead weights. Blackout/thermal lining can be supplied where appropriate. I do not tend
to use the more modern fused linings as these do not give the clean finish of the separate linings. If
this is what you require please do ask. In handmaking each item, attention to detail is exceptionally
high. I take great care in making sure pattern repeats are given careful consideration.

With curtains, the ‘heading’ – what they look like along the top - will need consideration. In the
gallery section you will see all the options. Which one you choose will depend on a number of
things. Your preference, aesthetically speaking, is very important – indeed it might be key - but
other matters might be good to take into account eg what works with the fabric you have chosen,
the pole, the room. The length of the curtains will also need to be decided: are they to be sill or floor
length, and if floor length, do you want them to have a very small puddle or to skirt the floor.

With Roman blinds, the number of pleats can make a big difference to the impact of the blind in
your room. I always think about the balance of the pleat stacks as against any effect on light.
Because each item is bespoke, the number of pleats can vary to what works best on a given window.
There is also the matter of whether the blind hangs inside or outside the window reveal, and if it’s
outside the reveal, whether when down it hangs to just above or below sill. All Roman blinds are
supplied on a made to measure safety compliant headrail.

Cushions, lampshades, footstools etc often require just a small amount of fabric. Depending on how
a fabric repeat works, there may be a bit of ‘wastage’ – fabric not used in the curtain/blind making
process. We can always have a chat about how this can be used later on in the process (usually once
we know what there is left). A bit of pretty trim, a contrasting fabric with a soft stripe for piping, or a
plain for the back of a cushion, are all things that can help bring your fabric into a different area of
your room – or indeed take it into another one.

Implementaion

I will only invoice you once I have hung your curtains and/or blinds and you are happy with them.
I can hang curtains to existing poles/tracks and Roman blinds to existing headrails as long as the
fixings are sound, and in the case of headrails additionally as long as they are compliant with existing
legislation. Because of the construction of handmade curtains, they are generally much heavier than
others. If you need to or choose to have new poles/tracks, I can help with sourcing. Further, if you
would like me to arrange for new poles/tracks or headrails to be fixed, I can get my fitter to provide
you with a quotation for his work.
